Accessibility at LRA

The LRA takes very seriously the accessibility of our space for all persons regardless of disability. Below you can find our policies on this matter. We strive to make our space as accessible as possible–and we recognize accessibility is complicated and we will likely have missed something. If you have additional needs, please reach out to us and we will try to accommodate you.

Location and Transportation

The LRA is located in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. The exact address is available when applying for a membership and to those attending an event open to the community after a survey is filled out for the event. The location is immediately in front of a 22 CTA bus stop that runs all night. It is about 0.5 miles from the Montrose CTA Brown Line station and 0.7 miles from the Wilson CTA Red Line station.

Parking is available on the same street as the LRA. This is paid via ParkChicago. The cross street nearest is free parking.

The LRA Space: Entryways, Bathrooms, and Basement

Street-level access to LRA is through an entry door that is 43” wide. Access to the main floor of the club, from the vestibule, is through a 34.5” wide doorway. There are no stairs for entering the vestibule or the club space.

The basement of the space is only accessible by one flight of stairs with a railing. The vast majority of activity occurs on the main floor, and there is plenty of equipment.
There are 11 stairs, 30” wide, with a railing leading down.

Two bathrooms are available in the club. The north bathroom (on the left side of the space) has a 27” wide doorway and then a narrow access hallway. The toilet itself is through another 27” doorway and sits 9” away from the wall. The south bathroom (on the back right side of the space) has a 32.5” wide doorway. The door opens immediately to the toilet which sits 4” away from the wall. There are no grab bars.

A shower is also available. The doorway is 27” wide. This is a flat-floored shower with a 2” lip for entry.

Devices and Cellphones

Devices used to translate, communicate, assist with medical needs, etc. are welcome in the LRA space. Please let us know when you check in if you will need to have access to these while inside of the club. A sticker will be placed over the camera on phones and tablets.

Events and Play at LRA

LRA movie nights include closed captioning whenever possible (subtitles are not available for some very old movies).

Light is often somewhat low in a dungeon environment, but we can supply you with flashlights for your use if you have low-light difficulties. Strobe lights are rarely if ever used at LRA.

Masks are always supported and we tolerate no criticism or harassment over their use. Attendees of LRA events are not required to wear masks.

Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well!

Service Animals are welcomed for public non-play events. When member play times begin, we regret we must exclude service animals for the safety of other members.

Medicines and Food/Drinks

Your medicines and food can be stored in our refrigerator or freezer during your visit. Please clearly mark these items with your name. (Please note: we cannot guarantee the safety of these items as the fridge is public access. Items left behind will be discarded during our cleaning operations.) You can also use our microwave to heat food if needed.

Snacks and soda are often stocked at our dry bar. We cannot guarantee any particular snack or drink.
